Juanita K. Hunter

Juanita K. Hunter

Mrs. Hunter was a registered nurse who was very active in Buffalo’s Afro-American community.  Mrs. Hunter is a graduate of Buffalo's Hutchinson Central High School, and in 1978, she joined the University of Buffalo faculty, coming from the Veteran's Administration Hospital where she was a public health nurse coordinator. She has advanced degrees in community health nursing and curriculum planning from UB. She was also active in nursing and health  professional organizations.  She served as President of the New York State Nurses Association. Dr. Hunter was married to the late Archie Louis Hunter, a social worker who was active in the community.

The papers in this collection pertain to Mrs. Hunter’s involvement in the Nurses Association.  These papers represent the first set of Mrs. Hunter’s papers to be filmed.  Series 2 was filmed later. The materials were indexed by Buffalo State College Students Crystal A. Jenkins, Stephanie Dilbert, and Rene Joslyn.  The microfilming was done by Tiffany Coke.  The project was supervised by Monroe Fordham.

*The records and papers in "Series 2" were discovered after the first collection of Juanita Hunter Papers were microfilmed.   The folders in "Series 2" were filmed in alphabetical order.  Mrs. Hunter was an African American nurse who served as president of the New York State Nursing Association.*
