            The Alpha Kappa Boule (Buffalo, NY) was chartered in 1954.  It is a local chapter of Sigma Pi Phi, the oldest Greek Letter Society among black Americans.  The national society was founded in 1904.  Over the years, members of the Buffalo group have included some of the most prominent and active members of Buffalo’s African American community.  Their individual contributions to the city’s history have been immense.  Their stories are intertwined in the papers of many of the groups whose papers are preserved as part the Buffalo Afro-American Collection and the Buffalo State College Regional History Collection.  The Alpha Kappa Boule Papers preservation project was initiated by officers of that organization.  The papers were prepared for microfilming by Monroe and Freddie Mae Fordham.  The filming was done by Charita Jackson and LaShawanda Ingram, Buffalo State College students, working under the supervision of the Fordham Regional History Center at Buffalo State College.
